چکیده

An adaptive method that robustly produces high aspect ratio tetrahedra to a general 3D metric specification without introducing hybrid semi-structured regions is presented. The elemental operators and higher-level logic is described with their respective domaindecomposed parallelizations. An anisotropic tetrahedral grid adaptation scheme is demonstrated for 1000–1 stretching for a simple cube geometry. This form of adaptation is applicable to more complex domain boundaries via a cut-cell approach as demonstrated by a parallel 3D supersonic simulation of a complex fighter aircraft. To avoid the assumptions and approximations required to form a metric to specify adaptation, an approach is introduced that directly evaluates interpolation error. The grid is adapted to reduce and equidistribute this interpolation error calculation without the use of an intervening anisotropic metric. Direct interpolation error adaptation is illustrated for 1D and 3D domains.

Parallel unstructured tetrahedral mesh adaptation: algorithms, implementation and scalability

The use of unstructured adaptive tetrahedral meshes in the solution of transient flows poses a challenge for parallel computing due to the irregular and frequently changing nature of the data and its distribution. A parallel mesh adaptation algorithm, PTETRAD, for unstructured tetrahedral meshes (based on the serial code TETRAD) is described and analysed. The portable implementation of the para...

Anisotropic Mesh Adaptation for Transonic and Supersonic Flow Simulation

We present an efficient tool for the numerical simulation of high speed flows in two and threedimensional domains. The space discretization is carried out with the finite volume method on unstructured triangular and tetrahedral meshes. In order to achieve sufficiently accurate capturing of shock waves, we have applied the anisotropic mesh adaptation technique which seems to be very suitable for...

Parallel Refinement and Coarsening of Tetrahedral Meshes

This paper presents a parallel adaptation procedure (coarsening and re nement) for tetrahedral meshes in a distributed environment. Coarsening relies upon an edge collapsing tool. Re nement uses edge-based subdivision templates. Mesh optimization maintains the quality of the adapted meshes. Focus is given to the parallelization of the various components. Scalability requires repartitioning of t...

Parallel adaptive mesh-refining scheme on a three-dimensional unstructured tetrahedral mesh and its applications

The development of a parallel three-dimensional (3-D) adaptive mesh refinement (PAMR) scheme for an unstructured tetrahedral mesh using dynamic domain decomposition on a memory-distributed machine is presented in detail. A memory-saving cell-based data structure is designed such that the resulting mesh information can be readily utilized in both nodeor cell-based numerical methods. The general ...

High Quality Anisotropic Tetrahedral Mesh Generation Via Ellipsoidal Bubble Packing

This paper presents a new computational method for anisotropic tetrahedral meshing that (1) can control shapes of the elements by an arbitrary anisotropy function, and (2) can avoid ill-shaped elements induced from poorly distributed node locations. Our method creates a tetrahedral mesh in two steps. First our method obtains node locations through a physically based particle simulation, which w...
